You can’t just open up a organic baby products business. You want to find a manufacturer of certified organic skin care products to stock in your store. You have to commit to the whole concept. You can’t, for instance, sell organic and non-organic skin care products for babies in the same store. If you do, you are diluting your brand. So the first thing you can do to sabotage your brand is to sell both of these.

Second, let one of your customers catch you using chemical based cleaning products to clean your store. This is breaking the code, and you just can’t afford to do it. The whole idea of using organic baby products, or anything that is USDA certified organic in the skin care field, is that you are doing something different; something healthy; something good for your community and the environment. You can’t let that get mixed at all. At your organic baby products store, you recycle, you use limited plastic containers, etc…You ARE organic.

If you have a sale, and you introduce 50 new clients to your products and service, what happens? If you are a “bargain” spa or skin product seller, your shoppers are shopping for price first. The skin care is secondary. However, if you shift your branding to quality, longevity and health-conscious products, now you are in a different arena. Your sale will only attract one-off type clients that are looking for a cheap skin care product in the first example. If you carry only certified organic skin care products, however, you will introduce new generations of clients to a brand and a way of life.

Certified organic skin care products have to be at least 95% organic in their ingredients, and the other 5% have to be from all natural ingredients.  That puts them in a different category. It also gives you a long term advantage to put in front of your clients: health.  There simply are no long term adverse health risks with certified organic skin care products. 

Now, how does this affect profitability?  The percentage markup in organic skin care products are similar to any other retail product, but since the price is higher your total profit is higher.  Now, factor in the fact that on balance your clients are going to be around a lot longer than clients of other spas, and you have a built in profit margin that lasts a lot longer.  Certified organic skin care products are a great choice for the profit of your spa.

First, you have to ask yourself who you are selling to. This may seem overly simplistic, but I promise it’s not. In fact, if that was your first thought, I can almost guarantee that you are losing money. “Target Market” is what it’s called. You have one, you just may not know it. They love their children, like all parents, and they want the best for them. But, there is a major difference between them and many others; they understand the dangers of non-organic skin care products, and especially the dangers for babies.

Second, ask yourself what do they want? The surface answer is a good place to start. They want organic baby oils to keep their baby safe. But what else? There are many motivations that will bring a mother to the point of buying organic baby oils, and you need to find them.

Non organic skin care products are made from lots of things, but the main two ingredients I want to talk about today are hormones and chemicals.

The first one, hormones, are serious. Your body uses hormones for many things, and in balance they are just fine. They do lots of great things for you. Out of balance, however, hormones can be very dangerous. Of particular interest, and concern, is estrogen. If you do some research, even a little, you will find that piling up excess hormones of any kind, but especially estrogen, is connected to all kinds of negative consequences–even cancer. You should take this very seriously for yourself. You should take it even more seriously for your infant. What kind of start do you want for your child? This is an important question, because what your baby takes in is what his body uses to build its little foundation.

The second kind of ingredient is just as important, but even more sinister. Toxic chemicals are present in every single over the counter non organic skin care product out there. Seriously think that through. You can’t get away from this truth. If you buy over the counter skin care products, you are ingesting chemicals. If you are, then your baby is. What kind of chemicals? There are nearly a thousand, but let’s just look at one. Toluene is a chemical that you can find in paint strippers and thinners. You also can find it in a lot of skin care products. Just that one fact should tell you all you need to know.

Certified organic skin care products are your ticket out of this kind of life. You don’t have to harm your child, you don’t have to harm yourself, and you can have a long and healthy life free of the negative side effects that come from using and ingesting chemicals and hormones. All you have to do is make the decision to buy only certified organic skin care products.

The trick is all in the labeling. When you purchase a skin care product, and you want that product to be organic, you have to read the label carefully. The words you look for to determine if a skin care product is really a organic skin care product are “certified organic”. Certified organic is a term that means that a organic skin care product has passed a test by the USDA. That test means that the organic skin care product is made of at least 95% organic ingredients. The remaining 5% of the ingredients must come from natural products.
